Whether you are a Tourist or a Traveler a scam awaits you behind any unfamiliar corner. Not that it should scare you, but from this moment on, consider yourself warned. However, if you do find yourself knee deep in it, don't feel too bad. It happens even to the most traveled and experienced of us.
Needless to say that scams and scammers around the world want only one thing from you - your money and belongings and the only thing that can stop them from achieving their goal is your knowledge, and therefore, ability to avoid getting into a sticky situation.
It is impossible to list each and every scam on earth as scammers reinvent them every minute, so it is likely you will need to use your head once in a while. The most common scams can be divided into these four following categories:
- It is in the name. A helpful local is not always a good thing. They might have their interests, rather than yours, in mind.
- You are not in Kansas anymore, and you don't know the prices. Overpaying is inevitable the only question is by how much.
- Run. It's a trap, and you must pay to get out. The basic rule is the same as in your home town - stay away from shady characters and situations.
- Whether you've been pickpocketed or held at gun point, it's the oldest trick in the book and the ways to apply it onto unsuspecting foreigners endless.
